Sanyo Zio Now available For Cricket

Just in case you haven't heard, Google's Android operating principles has not so quietly taken the smartphone market by storm. In fact, it is such a hit that it is putting Verizon on the map even against the distinguished iPhone. However, don't think that Verizon is the only carrier getting the Android phone, love. Now, even prepaid carriers are going to start getting in on the fun.

Earlier this year at an industry trade show, Cricket, the upstart regional wireless phone carrier announced that they were going to start contribution smart phones as part of their no-contract service. This is not especially new, Boost movable and Virgin movable Usa both have Blackberry phones on their networks. However, Cricket is upping the ante by going with an affordable Android device.

Cricket Wireless Internet

The phone Cricket announced was the Kyocera Zio, which has since been renamed the Sanyo Zio. The Zio is what I would call a midrange Android device. It is not the top of the line, but it runs apps, does navigation, and browses the internet at 3G speeds. It has a capacitive touch interface and you don't have to mortgage your house to afford it.

The biggest standout feature of the Zio is the pricing. If you buy a smartphone from a bigger carrier like At&T or Verizon Wireless, they will stick you in a 2 year ageement and fee you an early termination fee of 5 or higher. Sometimes these fees jump to over 0. It's ridiculous. When you buy the Sanyo Zio from Cricket, you own the phone, it isn't subsidized.

Of course, it must be high-priced right?

Actually, the phone retails for only 0, and the pre-orders cost more like 0. There is no ageement or early termination fee. This is an unsubsidized price. Also, the monthly service plan is very reasonable. Cricket charges per month for the Android plan. That includes unlimited talk, text, and data. There are no extra fees on that either. You only pay local and state sales tax.

I'm very excited about the Sanyo Zio. A proper 3G capable Android phone has been a long time coming on prepaid and no-contract wireless phone networks in the Us. Once citizen can go ageement free unlimited all without compromise, I don't think they'll look back. I sure don't plan to.
